Ina Loitzl (*1972) was born in Klagenfurt, and studied graphic and visual arts at the Mozarteum University
in Salzburg as well as visual media under Professor Peter Weibel at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna. She works primarily in photography and video, and creates textile objects and collages.

The creative principle of Ina Loitzl is to bring together different media and materials. She often combines techniques which she borrows from traditional handicrafts, such as embroidery, using mass-produced objects from the consumer world. From the exaggerated to the bizarre – her works can be interpreted as programmatic. It is not Loitzl’s intention to produce aesthetically complete works, but rather she is interested in the representation of a subtle social critique which entertains and speaks to the observers due to its spontaneity, while at the same time confronting them with the limits of their own tolerance and openness.

Her art is characterized by a humorous approach and a large degree of self-reflection – on both the
narrative and visual levels. Not unusually, Ina Loitzl confers an intimate dimension by imparting her own body and face to her figures. In her work, she gladly thematises and analyses various feminine role models and clichéd images of and about the so-called “fair sex”.
Her subject matter includes the female body, the beauty myth, ageing and sexuality.
