Druck am Limit / Print Unlimited?
Two Events - one Topic.
"Druck am Limit" (Print at the limit) collects four positions by young printmaking artists from the Department of Graphics and Printmaking Prof. Schenk/University of Applied Arts Vienna that are located at the fringe of the usual definition of printmaking. The printed sheet of paper is not sufficient anymore for art that is made with the intention to be published. Print becomes three-dimensional, an object or animated image, becomes "paperless printmaking".
The works of Lili Cristofolini, Renata Darabant, Simon Goritschnig und Dobroslav Houbenov give example for artists of a young generation that explores the limits of printmaking.
"Print Unlimited?" - a discussion at the Videolounge of the Kunsthalle in MQ , staged by the University of Applied Arts Vienna and Kro Art, offers the opportunity to look into theory and concepts that are in connection with the young artists' work. The signed and limited edition as criteria of printmaking is being dissolved and the practical work today has a new focus. Printmaking is the origin and a substantial part of the future of media art. In which way will be discussed by Dr. Georg Russegger (Media theory), Dr. Monika Knofler(Art Historian and Director of the Kupferstichkabinett at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna) and Mag. Michael Schneider (Curator and Printmaker). After short lectures, the public is invited to discuss the question: "Is printmaking today unlimited?"
